And what is up with that girl-reporter whom thinks she is really funny, but kinda sounds like she's a retarded 3rd grader.. and then there are all the stories about guys whom never got over some girl they liked in like 7th grade and have to go back and interview them now (20 years later) and it just becomes so saccharine and lamentable..

Have YOU ever heard that there's nothing so boring as an entire show peopled by voices all trying to sound alike? Do they have a special tutorial for prospective correspondents in case they don't match Ira Glass' desperate mincing uptalk? Lately I notice they all must have the identical speech impediment as well-- a sort of hinting th- lisp. Sara Vowel ?? ( yeah , I believe that's your name...),Ira, that guy with the corduroy and family book, some new kid that just started, people from all over the country presumably-- and they all talk in modified valley girl?? C'mon! I'm always interested in the material of the show, and I'm always put off by the bizarre lock-step of the voices. And lately it's gone a bit formulaic-- every opening tag line sounds the same-- even down to the number of syllables. I have serious trouble these days keeping the show on for the whole hour.

You piqued my interest, so I listened to that babysitter story. Wow, not even a shoelace drops. Not even an aglet from a shoelace drops. You should add a point or two for segments whose emotional sensibility seems to be dispassionate nostalgia and whose motivation seems to be idle curiosity. Unfortunately, TAL can't resist airing this kind of thing in between its more brilliant segments (of which there are many).

Finally, a method of listening to TAL that will keep me from cutting during those stories of questionable worth.
